Fixing the APEMReg.exe Application Error

A common computer error that many people suffer from is the APEMReg.exe application error. This is a very common problem which can affect all versions of windows including XP, Vista and windows 7.

What is the APEMReg.exe File?

The APEMReg.exe file shouldn't be anything to worry about as this is a vital windows component. This is the component which controls the sound volume of your computer. You should only ever see the APEMReg.exe file located in the windowssystem32 directory. If it's anywhere else then it's likely to be a virus.

Fixing the APEMReg.exe Application Error

Scanning for Viruses - If the file is anywhere other than windowssystem32 then it's probably a virus. Scan your computer for viruses to find out whether this is the problem. If you don't have a virus scanner then get one on the internet. You can either buy one or download one of the many free alternatives. It's also a good idea to scan for spyware at the same time.
Adding the System Tray Icon - Click on the control panel and then open the Sounds and Video controller's option. Then you will need to select the option to display the volume icon on the start bar which is next to your clock. Sometimes this fixes the problem.
Replacing Files - If none of the other things have worked so far then this could be because of corrupt files on your computer. Replacing corrupt system files will help to resolve many of these errors and problems. To do this follow the instructions below:
Put the windows CD in your drive
Click Start, Run and then type cmd then click ok
Access your CD Rom drive by pressing d: or whatever letter your cd drive is
Enter cd i386 and press enter
Then type expand sndvol32.ex_ c:windowssystem32APEMReg.exe. This will expand the sndvol32 file and then copy it to the correct location on your computer.
