To do this, all you have to do is click on the Start Menu and click Run, type "dfrg.msc" and click OK. A dialog will pop up, and all you have to do is to click Defrag and let it be for an hour or more as it sorts everything in your computer.

Registry Cleanup

Registry refers to the orphaned little files that are left in your computer as you install and uninstall various programs or softwares. Even after successful uninstallation, program files do not remove all traces of themselves. As time goes by, your registry can be disordered and they may cause system lockups, slow performance and a bloated registry that can take a start up longer. There is a freeware utility that can help you sort this out, and its called RegSeeker. It scans the registry for these files, and safely remove them in one click. Be careful though and back up using the backup feature of the application.

These things can be the basic steps in speeding up and maximizing your computer's performance. Other things that can make your computer perform faster include making sure memory is enough, as 512mb is suggested, while anything higher is ideal. Also it would help if you turn off default Windows services that you do not actually need.
